Million Hearts Wellness Research Study Seeking OSU Employees

Official Title: Improving Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors and Health Outcomes in High-Risk Individuals

Purpose:

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the online Million Hearts® wellness program modules, with or without health coaching, in comparison to health coaching alone, on the health status of Ohio State University employees who are considered pre-diabetic, hypertensive, and overweight or obese . Researchers look to determine the effects of the Million Hearts® program as an intervention for: improving healthy lifestyle beliefs and behaviors, controlling hypertension, preventing diabetes,improving BMI, and reducing stress, anxiety and depressive symptoms.

Eligibility criteria:

Inclusion:
- Current benefits eligible employee of The Ohio State University
- Ages 18 and older
- Overweight or obese, BMI ≥25
- Pre-diabetic or diagnosed with Type II diabetes (Hemoglobin A1c (HgA1c) greater than 5.7% - this can be found on your biometric screening card)
- High Blood Pressure (controlled or not controlled). This will be any employee who at the time of biometric screening had a blood pressure over 120/80 mmHg

Exclusion:
- Previous diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes
- Has received health coaching within 1 year of study enrollment
- Has completed the online Million Hearts® program prior to enrollment
