A Study Evaluating the Effect of Black Raspberry Whole Fruit Beverage on Gut Health to Prevent Lung Cancer

Official Title: The BE WELL Study: Black Raspberry Beverage Working to Prevent Lung Cancer

Purpose:

To test whether black raspberry whole fruit beverage can have positive effects on your health by affecting the bacteria in your gut (the microbiome), and reduce inflammation to prevent the risk of lung cancer in current smokers or former smokers.

** This study is continuing to recruit participants during the virus outbreak, but the scheduling of in-person visits is being temporarily put on hold.

Eligibility criteria:

1. Age between 55 and 77 years
2. Have a 30 pack-year smoking history
3. Are a current smoker, or former smoker that quit in the last 15 years. Any individual who is currently smoking and has smoked more than 100 cigarettes in their lifetime will be identified as a current smoker
4. Not allergic to berries, pectin, or food colorants
