Official Title The KOBRA Study: The Effects of Knee Osteoarthritis on Brain ActivationPurpose
The purpose of this study is to assess changes in brain activation and processing in those with right knee osteoarthritis compared to healthy controls.
Could this study be right for you?
- Either two healthy knees OR those with right knee pain from a diagnosis of right knee osteoarthritis with a healthy left knee
- No metal implants that prevent you from having an MRI
- No foot/ankle/leg/hip surgeries in the past year
- No neurologic conditions
- No conditions that prevent athletic participation or maximal effort exercise
- Able to provide informed consent
- Speak and read English

Establishing Reference Values and Clinical Decision-Making Points for Live-action X-ray Swallowing Exams
Official Title Establishing Reference Values and Clinical Decision Points for Quantitative Videofluoroscopic Measures of SwallowingPurpose
This study will help create healthy reference values clinicians can use to evaluate adult patients of all ages and is sponsored by the National Institute on Aging. During this study, we will perform an x-ray swallowing exam and breathing tests with persons who do not have a personal history of swallowing problems or any disorders that could contribute to a swallowing problem. Study participation will consist of a screening meeting (approximately 15 minutes) via phone call, video chat, or email to verify eligibility, and one in-person visit to our laboratory (approximately 1 hour).

- If you are biologically female and of child-bearing age (<63), you must not be pregnant or breastfeeding.
- No personal history of surgery or radiation therapy to the head or neck (mouth, jaw, neck, brain, nose, face, thyroid, throat, or voice box) other than having your tonsils, adenoids, or teeth removed.
- No personal history of cancer involving structures of the head, neck, spine, respiratory, or lymphatic system.
- No personal history of stroke or other progressive nerve disease.
- No current diagnosis or personal history of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
- No known allergies to barium.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of an investigational new drug in healthy participants aged 18-60 years.
Could this study be right for you?
- In good health and BMI (ratio of body weight to height) between 18-29.9 kg/m2
- Willing to participate in various research assessments including blood collection, urine collection, electrocardiogram, and vital signs
- Willing to stay overnight (~30 hours) in the OSU Hospital Clinical Research Center
- If sexually active, willing to utilize highly effective birth control during the study period
- Not currently pregnant or breast-feeding
- No significant medical condition involving any major organs (heart, lung, liver, brain, or endocrine)
- No to any of the following: alcohol or substance abuse, spleen problems, or drug hypersensitivity
- No history of or undergoing treatment for: major psychiatric illness, seizures, or autoimmune disease
- Not currently taking immunosuppressive drugs
- No active Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, or HIV
- No cancer history within 5 years (squamous and basal cell skin cancer excluded)

To improve our ability to provide the best possible care to every mom and infant, we are testing two different models of primary care during the first year after childbirth.

- You may qualify if you’re currently pregnant – AND – you’ve ever had high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, or anxiety, including during pregnancy.
If you participate, you’ll be randomly assigned to an Ohio State location that delivers one of two models of care. Providers at all locations can help you manage your health, but the models differ in several ways.
- You’ll complete three study visits with surveys, several measurements, and blood and hair sampling. We’ll collect cord blood and review medical records.

Neurodevelopmental Effects of Youth Tackle Football
Official Title Understanding the Neurodevelopmental Effects of Youth Tackle Football ParticipationPurpose
In this study we are aiming to identify risk factors for higher exposure to football-related neurotrauma in youth tackle football players and to determine the effects of football-related neurotrauma exposure on neurodevelopment in children with no previous tackle football participation.
For this specific posting, we are looking for boys ages 8-12 who are non-athletes or athletes who play non-contact sports to serve as control subjects for our fMRI study.

- Boys must have no metal implanted in the body

- Have no serious health or mental health diagnoses

The purpose of the study is to investigate how the brain that we are each born with leads to our own unique behavior later in life, and the similarities and differences between maternal and child brains. We are studying infants prenatally and postnatally, following up with them as they grow and develop, and studying their mothers to understand how similar/different they are to their child.

- Infants under 3 years of age, and pregnant persons who are at least 20 weeks pregnant
- All participants must have no metal implanted in the body
- Have no significant health conditions or history of serious mental illness
- Not suffer from a (fear of enclosed spaces)
- Pregnancies must be without complication.

A Study Evaluating How Alcohol Affects Thinking and Decision Making
Official Title Impulsivity Domains and Subjective ResponsePurpose
The purpose of this study is to examine the degree to which different ways of thinking and decision making – measured using computer tasks and questionnaire – relate to how people feel after a dose of alcohol. By doing this study, we hope to learn about the relationships between decision making and responses to alcohol.

Exclusion criteria include:
- Any serious medical problems (i.e., liver disease, cardiac abnormality, pancreatitis, diabetes, neurological problems, gastrointestinal disorders, abnormal kidney function)
- Body weight < 110 or > 210 pounds
- Current medical or psychiatric condition requiring medication for which alcohol consumption is contraindicated
- Lifetime history of schizophrenia or other psychotic disorder
- Substance Use Disorder other than alcohol

The purpose of PREVENTABLE is to learn if taking a statin could help older adults live well for longer by preventing dementia, disability, or heart disease. The duration of the study will last 5 years.

- Community-dwelling adults
- Age ≥75 years
- English or Spanish as primary language
Exclusion Criteria:
- Clinically evident cardiovascular disease defined as prior myocardial Infarction (MI), prior stroke, prior revascularization procedure, or a secondary prevention indication for a statin (clinician determined)
- Hospitalization for a primary diagnosis of heart failure in the prior 12 months (Note: History of heart failure in the absence of recent hospitalization or clinically evident cardiovascular disease is not an exclusion)
- Dementia (clinically evident or previously diagnosed)
- Dependence in any Katz Basic Activities of Daily Living [ADL] (with the exception of urinary or bowel continence)
- Severe hearing impairment (preventing phone follow up)
- Unable to talk (preventing phone follow up)
